Thanksgiving in Vegas

Thanksgiving in America! I flew into the states on Thanksgiving day - which meant dinner was my Thanksgiving feast. Because we were in transit for over 24 hours, we obviously had no time for a home-cooked meal. So, being in Las Vegas, we went to the Strip!

Several restaurants were advertising special menus, including Wolfgang Puck's restaurants. So we went to his Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at the MGM Grand Hotel. I chose his 3 course Thanksgiving menu. It was all so generous! I totally took home what I couldn't finish. The white turkey meat made for some great sandwiches for the next couple of days. The best part of the meal was definitely dessert - the lightest and creamiest pumpkin pie I've ever eaten! I want to go back to his restaurant to enjoy his classic Chinese Chicken Salad and more of Sherry Yard's desserts.

A New Wolfgang Puck Restaurant

Now known as Wolfgang Puck Pizzeria and Cucina, located in the new Crystals at the City Center in Las Vegas. It started as a French brasserie concept, but quickly changed to Italian soon after it's grand opening. When we ate there, the restaurant was still called "Brasserie Puck", but the menu had already become Italian. Overall, it's a fun Wolfgang Puck restaurant, but I still prefer Wolfgang Puck's Bar and Grill over at the MGM.

The interior is pretty spread out. There are about three separate dining areas and a bar. The televisions at the bar are pretty cool. Check it out in the picture below, although the light shining on the screen made it difficult to see.

Steamed Mussels "Fra Diavolo"

Ricotta Gnocchi
With Sausage Bolognese and Italian Parsley. Delicious! The bolognese had such a great meat and tomato filled taste.

Prosciutto Pizza
With Mascarpone Cheese and Arugula. Well baked and not oily on the bottom. A tasty pizza to share.

Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich
With fries. A filling sandwich! I could only eat half, and I was already more than full. Nicely fried and a great tasting ciabatta bread.

Salad Craving

Wolfgang Puck is known for many things. I love him for two reasons: 1) His thick-accented humor and 2) His Chinois Chicken Salad. I love a good Chinese Chicken Salad. When I have that craving, I usually go to Trader Joes. When I'm in Vegas and I have that craving, I go to Wolfgang Puck's Bar and Grill in the MGM Grand. Of the Chinese Chicken Salad's I've tried so far, this is my favorite one.
Note: I left my camera at home, so these photos are from my (incredibly basic) cellphone.

The Menu

The Wine Pairing
Riesling, Monchhof, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, 2007
A nice light white wine paired with the salad.

Pinot Noir, Irony Mountain, Monterey, 2007
This fragrant light red was a great complement to the pizza.

Chinois Chicken Salad
With Candied Peanuts and Honey-Mustard Vinaigrette. This is a half portion because the order was split. We had to ask for extra dressing because it was not as tasty as we had remembered. Once we put a little more dressing, the salad was just as great as always. Fresh, crisp ingredients and a nice tangy dressing.

Tomato, Burata Mozzarella and Basil Pizza
Pizzas have tough competition after I ate in Pizzeria Delfina. This pizza was great because of the Burata Mozzarella. So fresh! So creamy! So light!
